Purpose

The Stockton Art League is an enthusiastic group of people who are interested in and enjoy the world of art. S.A.L. had its beginnings in 1936 as a critique session, and later as a sketching group. The membership includes professional, semi-professional, and amateur artists, and people who just enjoy our programs and exhibitions.

WE provide or promote programs, workshops, classes, and activities that will stimulate growth in individual members and that will encourage the exchange of ideas between members.

WE provide or promote mutual cultural exchange with other organizations concerned with the creative arts and with the community at large.

WE aid in the building of art appreciation in San Joaquin County.

WE provide opportunities for exhibitions of works of arts and crafts for members, both as individuals and as a group.

Meetings

Our member meetings occur on the second Thursday of the month, at 7 p.m., at the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery. Be sure and watch the Collagraph for the current meeting information. At these meetings, we have scheduled guest speakers, accomplished professional artists, and members who demonstrate their own special approach to art.

Our meetings are open to all and free of charge. They provide a rare opportunity to meet with other art-minded people for an exchange of ideas and news. These motivating demonstrations are designed for the individual to develop an appreciation for all forms of art, and serve to enrich the appreciation of art in our community.

Demonstrations

Our monthly art demonstrations are held the 2nd Thursday of each month from either 3-5 pm or 6-8 pm depending on artist availability. These demonstrations are free and open to the public and entail a variety of media being taught, along with the particular artist's approach and technique. These motivating demonstrations are designed for the individual to develop an appreciation for all forms of art, and serve to enrich the appreciation of art in our community.
